Saturday Snapshots #4

No matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow.

-Proverb

I am borrowing this picture from Pam Lappegard’s wonderful blog. She took such an awesome picture and it made me think of spring.

I am getting out of the house today…I hope you do the same :)

Fast Food Logos

Can I biggie size that?

-me

As I have mentioned before, logos are so important. Logos are to be designed to brand your idea/business and be unique and eye catching. But when you drive down the road and see all of the fast food signs lit and ready to serve you – do you notice anything? Most of the logo colors are red and yellow. I am not sure why companies have not thought outside of the box yet?!

Think of a fast food restaurant and see if it the main color is red – if so, is the secondary color yellow?

Please share some restaurants with me that do not have red & yellow. I want to see how many we can get.

The one’s that I can think of are….

Countries’ Tourism Logos

Hello all! I love catching the commercials that other countries put together to promote tourism. Anywho- take a look at a few of my favorites.

I am a sucker for any Arabic. It is so pretty! And it reads from right to left :)

This one is my favorite by far – so pretty!

What Were They Thinking????

I hope everyone had a Happy Easter & and a nice long weekend. I know I did.

As I have mentioned before, I really enjoy going to National Parks. Eddie and I try to go to as many as possible and get cancellation stamps in our National Parks Passport books (get one here). So this past weekend we went to Kentucky to visit Mammoth Cave National Park & Lincoln’s Birthplace National Park.

As we were driving down the interstate – not sure which one since we had to get onto so many – I saw a billboard that caught my eye. It was for the show Vampire Diaries. Now I know what most of you were thinking, it caught my eye due to my obsession with vampires. But take a look and see if you notice a slight problem with their message….

I don’t know about you but I never want to “Catch VD.” I mean…what were they thinking? Why abbreviate something just to then fully write it out underneath? Not only that but….”VD”.

Happy Long Weekend – I mean Happy Easter!!!

New Starbucks Logo – New or Ew?

Sleep is a symptom of caffeine deprivation.

-Author Unknown

This week I am leaving it up to my readers to decide on the new Starbucks Logo. This logo has evolved over the years. But always kept the Company’s Name in a band around the Siren that has always been in the center. Now it is just the Siren – no name at all. I am on the fence but kind of leaning toward – Ew…..

New website launch- Whitney Olson Portraits & Photography

It is important that you recognize your progress and take pride in your accomplishments. Share your achievements with others. Brag a little. The recognition and support of those around you is nurturing.

-Rosemarie Rossetti quotes

As you all know – I have been very excited to work on my sister’s website for her small business “Whitney Olson Portraits & Photography”! Well – we have built the site and launched it. We are calling it her “mini site”. Even though her site is designed and launched there are plans for a Phase 2 version of the site.

This page will eventually be a drop down menu of each photography category, such as; “newborns,” “weddings,” “pets,” etc.

This update will be part of Phase 2.

“session fees” page

“contact me” page

This page will have a form field section for clients to fill out that will email her directly.

This will also be part of Phase 2.

Saturday Snapshots #3 – Pet Caricatures

It often happens that a man is more humanely related to a cat or dog than to any human being.

-Henry David Thoreau

After I created my friend Laura’s Save the Date of her pets, one of her best friends approached me on doing her Christmas card. I was told by Laura that “I think you may have found a niche here.” So I agree to do her Christmas card.

Laura + Chris' Save the Date

She had 2 pugs – Edgar & Edith and 1 cat – Claude. I asked her to send me as many pictures she could showing me their facial features and personalities. I was excited to see how different the 2 pugs looked. Edgar was very much a plump little boy. He has boyish little facial features. Edith was a tiny little cutey with an underbite- and seemed very girly. Claude – well Claude has quite a belly ;)

So after just a few tweaks by the Mama here is the Christmas card I created for her and her perfect little, furry family!

I also made her poster prints of each pet so that she could hang them up in her office.

Flashback to Old Ads – Are things much different?

You hear about how politically incorrect ads were back in the day…. I don’t think things have changed that much…

-me

Just thought this would be a funny post and a reality check. These ads are so politically incorrect. But we do the same things today just a little bit more subliminally. Don’t worry America – I think we know what our “gender roles” are.

What man puts on a full suit and then gets back in bed for breakfast? How about since you are fully dressed, you go downstairs and eat at the table.

“Colour Slide Projector” – that is not the only thing projecting…

This ad is for a shoe shine polish – I only know that because I read the wording.

Well these make me laugh but also make me realize that we still send the same messages in our ads. I guess things haven’t changed that much.this is my life in design

Working on a new site!

Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever… it remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.

- Aaron Siskind

Hello there readers…

I have been a very busy fishy working on my sister’s website. She is an amazing photographer but has had construction page up for a while now. So, we have been working hard to gather all the information needed for her site. In the meantime, I am building a “mini site” to launch while we build her “real site”.

Anywho – I will keep you all updated on when the “mini site” is launched and when the “real site” is launched.

Here is a sneak peak of the adorable tots she has photographed. Please keep her in mind for your photography needs. Her prices are very reasonable and she will work with you to build a package that fits any budget!
